Buying your first bass set up is arguably the most important purchase in your playing career...

Get it right and you'll be lead along a journey of self expression, artistic fulfillment, and achievement of inner peace. Get it wrong and you'll soon be running for a copy of the T.V guide and the controller for your Play Station II. Therefore it is crucial to get the right starter pack in order to have a good chance of learning to play the thing!

Have you ever heard yourself saying "I don't want to spend too much because I don't know if I'll stick to it?" Sometimes the cheapest deal can work out to be the least economical one too. By spending a few extra pounds at the outset and going for the guitar and amplifier at the next price point up may result in you having a much more playable bass and a better sounding amp which not only will make it easier for you to learn on but will be fun to play thus encouraging you to play it more. Gerrit?

Basses come in four; five, and six string versions, ones with fretless fingerboards, ones with active pickups; some have one pickup, some two. Some with three knobs and others with six and a couple of switches thrown in for good measure, in a variety of different shapes, sizes, weights, colours (blah blah blah!) and when you think it's all over there's the other half of the equation…the amplifier!!

However - DON'T PANIC !!

I'll now highlight the main products to check out...

Quick fix or a lifetime of pleasure! Bass guitarists are always in heavy demand!!

Our Peavey Milestone III Package is ideal for any beginner
The milestone III offers greater flexibility in tone whilst the Milestone IV offers more punch. Here are a few examples of the type of "first-time buys "I'd go for:

PEAVEY

Peavey do a wide range of bass guitar equipment from the humble starter pack to the professional's dream.

Their entry level basses are the Milestone III and IV.

The Milestone III is a "Jazz Bass" style format with the familiar pick up arrangement of two single coils giving the bass player a good and usable range of tones. This bass has three controls, two volume knobs, one for each pick up, and an overall tone for both pick ups.

The Milestone IV is a "Precision" type bass, which again gets its description from the Fender Precision bass which made this type of pick up arrangement popular. The split Humbucker on the Milestone IV gives a very punchy sound, plenty of bass and mid range making this bass great for rock and funk alike.

Both the basses mentioned above have a slim neck profile thus making them very easy to get your fingers around and also a light weight feel so you won't get tired after a few hours practise. These basses come in a variety of colours including the usual black; white; red and sunburst and retail for about £139.00.

Peavey's entry level bass combo is the Microbass. It is a 20 Watt unit, which makes enough sound for practising with friends or jamming along to your favourite records and provides the player with a good and recognisable bass tone rather than a "tinny clank" like some of its competitors. This unit can also power an extension speaker cab giving the user a little more scope in sound, and a headphone socket for private moments. The Microbass combo is small and light weight thus making it easy to take to school or work for a bit of extra practise in your dinner times. The Peavey Microbass combo retails for about £99.00.

Due to the superb value of both the Microbass and Milestone basses, we have put together a package that encompasses these two bits of gear + all of the accessories you'll need to get started. As always, we hand finish your bass too, ensuring that it plays absolutely beautifully straight from the box.
